Apple has announced a voluntary recall of Australian AC two-prong wall plug adapters for Mac and iOS devices from between 2003 – 2015. The adapters were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit.

“In very rare cases, affected Apple two-prong wall plug adapters may break and create a risk of electrical shock if touched,” Apple said in a statement.

The recall affects adapters designed for use in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and Brazil.

Apple notes that other wall plug adapters, including those designed for Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States and Apple USB power adapters are not affected.

Affected adapters will have either four or five characters, or none at all, located inside the slot where it attaches to the main Apple power adapter.

Apple is aware of 12 ‘incidents’ of adapters malfunctioning and “because customer safety is the company’s top priority, Apple is asking customers to stop using affected plug adapters”.
