We're proud to have partnered with Stay Smart Online and be involved in their Stay Smart Online Week, helping to bring awareness and education to our community on cyber security.
Our Director of Business Development, Aron Robertson, said joining the Australian Government’s Stay Smart Online initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to providing the most up-to-date and trustworthy information and resources available. Strategic Group is the only Hunter-based IT provider currently appointed as a partner.
“We know that around 59% of Australian organisations have their business interrupted by a cyber breach every month, with small business representing 43% of cyber crime victims,” Aron explained.
“It is crucial for organisations – no matter what size – to not only be aware, but be prepared by having good cyber security measures in place should they be needed.”
The Australian Government set up the Stay Smart Online program in 2006 to provide simple, easy-to-understand advice. A key priority is to create a cyber smart nation and for Australians to have cyber security skills and knowledge to thrive in the digital age.
It’s estimated one in five Australians have experienced identity theft.
This year’s Stay Smart Online national awareness week ‘Reverse the Threat’ campaign, from 7-13 October, aims to empower people, businesses and the community to protect themselves online by taking greater control of their identity through:
• reviewing privacy settings
• knowing how to spot phishing scams
• creating strong and unique passwords
• turning on two-factor authentication
“A person’s online identity is made up of many things including their name, date of birth, address, bank account details, credit card numbers, driver’s licence, passport, and even photos shared with friends,” Aron explained.
“All these pieces of information can be accessed by cybercriminals if we don’t take the necessary steps to keep our information private and secure online.
“As a trusted Stay Smart Online partner, we’ve pledged to continue to help raise awareness and support businesses where we can.
“We intend to be a strong voice in the cyber security conversation in order to educate, prepare and protect businesses.”
